A Home away from Home

Rathgar is a happy and lively care home in the county town of Northamptonshire. The residents determine the pattern of their own lives and are encouraged to mix and make new friends.

The excellent quality of care at Rathgar is due to the high staffing levels and on-going programme of training. The Registered Manager is Jane Borland. Jane says, “we have an excellent reputation for care at Rathgar and all our care assistants are on hand 24 hours a day”.

All the bedrooms have a hand-wash basin with several having en-suite facilities. They are newly decorated in attractive colour schemes with high quality furniture. There are nurse call buttons in every bedroom and every en-suite, so that help is always available. Residents have a choice of a main lounge, reception area or a conservatory with a garden and courtyard to sit out in on sunny days.

At Rathgar, their aim is to make its residents transition work, as smoothly and comfortably as possible. Residents are made to feel entirely at home and looked after in a manner similar to that which would be given by a caring relative. Residents’ rooms are regarded as their personal space and Rathgar encourage all residents to bring as many of their own belongings as possible to make the room their own. Visitors can come at any time and even stay for lunch or tea – so it is home from home for everyone.

The friendly carers and staff at Rathgar are on hand to assist residents with personal care and help them with anything they need. When you join Rathgar Care Home you are encouraged to maintain your independence and to continue to make your own decisions about how you wish to live your life.

There is an activities team 5 days a week catering for a variety of interests from quizzes, bowls, films, music afternoons and poetry readings to group exercises and one-to-one opportunities to go to coffee outlets, visit the shops, cinema and theatre trips or even a visit to the local pub – the residents are never short of anything to do.

The Rathgar residents are encouraged to get moving (seated or standing) with Tai Chi, Ball Room dancers to entertain residents and guests at Rathgar (everyone can join in if they wish), various singers and a choir. There are also weekly chiropodist, hairdresser and a nail technician.

Meals are generally served in dining rooms but can be taken to rooms or one of the lounges if that is preferred. Breakfast is served any time from 7.00am onwards, lunch at 12.30pm brings a choice of two menus, evening tea is served at 5.00pm and drinks and snacks are provided at 7.00pm. Snacks, fresh fruit, hot and cold drinks are also served throughout the day. So all individual dietary needs are catered for in house.

There are various events throughout the year, with Wine & Cheese Evenings, Summer BBQ Parties, Vintage Tea Parties and all things festive during Christmas time – these are always memorable occasions for all residents and their families.

Rathgar offers a safe, homely and caring environment where help is on hand at any time of day or night, and visitors are always welcome.
